My Name is Chris Gin, and I am a New Zealand Landscape Photographer
I’ve admired the New Zealand landscape for as long as I can remember. The natural and urban scenery often leaves me breathless.
When I became hooked on photography in 2007, the subject matter took care of itself. I am based in Auckland, New Zealand, and take photos all throughout the country. There is so much scenery to capture and appreciate.
My work focuses on nearby views of:
• Oceans
• Lakes
• Mountains
• Glaciers
• Geothermal attractions
• Urban architecture
As a New Zealand landscape photographer, I consider myself fortunate, because all of this subject matter is within a short driving distance from home, or a quick domestic flight.
My Photography Process
For those who are interested, some of my favourite photography equipment to use includes:
• Sony A7Riii
• Sony FE 16-35mm f/4 ZA OSS
• Canon 24-105 f/4
• Hitech GND filters
I use Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom to process my photos. I shoot in RAW instead of JPEG, which means the camera does not do the processing. I try to strike a balance in my editing process between enhancing the look of the photo and maintaining a realistic look.
Some photographers heavily edit their photos, which makes them stand out more on social media sites like Instagram. I prefer a realistic look and feel, making the viewer feel like they could step into the photograph.
More About Me
My professional background is in information technology, but my interest in landscape photography took off in 2007. I began showing off my photography on the social media site Flickr, and eventually developed my own website.
On a personal level, I love playing badminton and spending time with dogs, though I don’t have one of my own. I do love borrowing my friend’s dog Dodo, though, and throwing the ball for her. I’m also a big Star Wars fan.
